“Why Isn’t Learning Enjoyable Anymore? - How To Revive Your Curiosity”

Image
DO YOU     I found this video to be very relatable because of the discussion on how learning has changed so much over time and how this affects individuals and their futures. I liked how this video was a ‘sit down’ video because it felt more personal and inspirational as well! Hearing about how school restricts individuals to look into things that interest them and the amount of stress it brings and how instead we should start to look into what we like is something I think many people need to be aware of! Especially adults that feel they aren’t doing what they have actual interest in as a career or even as a hobby! I think something a lot of us individuals can do to cultivate more curiosity in our lives is to tell ourselves that no matter what happens, when we finally decide to feed our interests, either good or bad, we will learn from it and appreciate the good memories we had made in the process!

"Lock-Up: The Prisoners of Rikers Island"

PRISONERS OF RIKERS           After watching "Lock-Up: The Prisoners of Rikers Island" I learned about how many different groups of inmates there were and the differences between all of them. I was also saddened to how that life appears to be so normal to them. There were so many emotions while watching this movie as well. I was shocked, sad, and frustrated with the way these people were living on Rikers, the mental health they were struggling with, and the way some officers spoke about the inmates. Hearing personal stories from the inmates really opened my eyes and how much the system is really broken as well.

"Bertrand Russell - Message To Future Generations (1959)"

CHARITY AND TOLERANCE     Hearing what Russell had to say about life and the key to the continuation of human life on this planet was extremely eye opening. He brought up the fact that charity and tolerance for one another is vital to human life remaining and I do agree. Humans can be vicious and carrying a lot of rage, which is why tolerance of others is significant, as well as helping your peers and family and friends.

"CURIOSITY" Featuring Richard Feynman

CURIOSITY           Watching this video about 'curiosity' and about how everything is connected in some way was insane! I liked the way the video was created as well. For instances, the visuals were amazing and I feel it really made you think about 'what makes something do something?'. I love watching videos like this because it gets me thinking about Earth itself and how we have a variety of capable things while we are on a planet that is surrounded by many other planets and space itself! Another factor that helped grab my attention to this video was the way the voice over was put into text in the video. It added importance and curiosity to what was being delivered.

"The Preciousness of Time: A Stephen Hawking Tribute"

BE CURIOUS     "The Preciousness of Time: A Stephen Hawking Tribute" was the type of video to make me rethink life. Hearing about how Hawking was given only a few years to live and how he lost his ability to communicate normally, while still being stuck in his own thoughts, made me appreciate life even more! I thought it was cool to hear him explain how once his life changed, he started to really think about the universe and how it works, as well as trying to encourage others to 'be curious'.

"The Search for Social Identity Leads to 'Us' versus 'Them'"

IDENTITY       While reading this article, "The Search for Social Identity Leads to 'Us' versus 'Them", written by Michael A. Hogg, I was pretty confused and blown away! The information being shared about individuals' identities, social identities, and group settings was hard to wrap my head around at first. The more I read, the more I understood and what I thought to be extremely interesting was the fact that self-uncertainty was seen to be reduced by certain features of groups and social identities! While the information being shared was shocking, it did make sense. Reading about how self-uncertainty acts as a motivator for people to identify with a group and keep that identity as a main part of who they are is something I find myself doing, as well as my homies.
